Continuing cases of cattle being run over on railway tracks in Tiruchi Railway Division have prompted authorities to organize a comprehensive community consultation initiative involving the Railway Protection Force, local panchayat presidents and farm owners between Budalur and Tiruverumbur in Tiruchi-Thanjavur area on Saturday were gauge section.

Consultation sessions were held at ten strategic locations between Budalur and Tiruverumbur to sensitize villagers about the dangers and consequences of cattle migration on railway tracks. This joint effort aimed to promote a deeper understanding of the risks associated with allowing cattle to roam freely near railway lines.

RPF staff emphasized the importance of community engagement in addressing this critical issue. The initiative distributed leaflets highlighting the risks associated with running over cattle and ways to prevent it.

Farmers and local leaders were encouraged to work together and develop strategies to secure their livestock, particularly in areas adjacent to railway tracks. Discussions have been held about implementing infrastructure improvements such as fencing and signage to better manage livestock near rail corridors.

The Engineering Department of Tiruchi Railway Division has observed that the number of cases of cattle being run over on railway tracks has increased. More than 200 such cases have been reported this year alone. By promoting dialogue and proactive engagement with the community, the Tiruchi Division hopes to improve railway and livestock safety.

More consultation sessions and workshops would be held in the coming months to reinforce these messages and ensure continued community participation in railway and livestock protection, a press release from the Tiruchi division said.
