Ontario, Calif. – A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck Southern California early Sunday. The epicenter was southeast of Ontario. Residents across the region reported feeling the tremors, which occurred at a depth of 5.7 km.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 3:51 a.m. local time. Although no major damage or injuries were reported, the community responded quickly using the “Did you feel it?” platform, which contributed nearly 400 responses to track the quake’s intensity. Shortly afterwards, an aftershock of magnitude 2.5 occurred.

The earthquake was felt in several cities in the Inland Empire, including San Bernardino and Riverside. Residents described mild to moderate shaking, with many taking to social media to share their experiences.

Experts are reminding locals to stay prepared for aftershocks and major seismic events and stressing the importance of earthquake preparedness plans. The USGS continues to monitor seismic activity in the region.

For those who experienced the quake, the USGS recommends reporting their observations via the “Did You Feel It?” page. Function to support research and public safety.
