Big B assesses Kansas State’s 4-1 start

For this week’s Friday Walk Through, GoPowercat’s Cole Carmody was joined by former Kansas State football players Brien “Big B” Hanley and Monte Spiller.

When asked how they would rate the Wildcats’ 4-1 start to the season, Big B had this to say:

I’m not disappointed, but what upsets me is the way they lost to BYU. It’s not like they lost the game. You know, anyone can lose on the street against a tough opponent. It happens as I mentioned earlier. They give scholarships to other schools. They distribute them to people. But they lost and didn’t fight back. And I know I’ve said this over and over again, but it’s just the truth and I’ll continue to say it.

But on the other hand, I’ve said this again and again, they learned from what they did and learned that you don’t have to stay down. You know, a lot of times we see a team from up the street that has their teeth beaten in and is constantly lying down. And they have talent there. There is no need to go into names and talk about it, but we have seen it. We saw them getting beaten up all the time, you know? And the thing about Kansas State is you mentioned the culture earlier. Cole, Kansas State has a culture, yeah, okay, I get it. We lost. It didn’t look good, but we don’t have a culture where we just lie there and get our heads bashed in. So I’ll definitely endure it. I thought we could go undefeated but there’s still a lot of football left to play and I suspect they’re just getting this bye week such as it is. It’s strange that there are two, but it is what it is: new college football.

But yeah, this comes at a great time, again at a great time. It’s not guys, okay, he’s got a sprained knee or something. You know, these guys will come back when they come back. You know what, Monte? Man, my shoulder hurts, my elbow hurts, my wrist hurts, my ankle hurts, but if I give myself another 10 days of rest, oh man, that stuff, it feels better now, you know? So that’s the thing about this bye week. I’m really glad it happened when it did.
