“Dangerous” parking in Meliden increases the risk of a “serious accident”

“Dangerous” parking in Meliden increases the risk of a “serious accident”

Meliden Residents’ Action Group (MRAG) chair Minesh Shah says this has been an issue for several months and told the council in the letter that it was “mandatory” to deal with the local authority.

Dr. Shah said that at a meeting of the group in July, two community support officers from North Wales Police were present and questioned about the issue.

But he said they replied they were unable to take action because that “responsibility lies with the traffic police officers employed by the city or county council”.

In the letter to the council, Dr. Shah, speaking on behalf of the group, raised concerns on three main points:

  • Cars are parked on the double yellow lines near The Grove and A457 junction.
  • Parking on the double yellow lines at Ffordd Talargoch – “making it impossible for buses to pass at times, causing significant inconvenience to passengers and bus drivers and causing delays”.
  • Parking on the pavement opposite The Meadows and parking on Ffordd Penrhwylfa near the football pitch – “this forces pedestrians onto the road to get past the parked cars; You will understand that it is particularly undesirable when mothers with strollers and babies are forced onto the streets.”

Concerns were also expressed that “cars are often parked at bus stops” in Meliden.

Dr. Shah added: “It is incumbent on the council to address this and we therefore call on the council to immediately address this illegal and dangerous parking on double yellow lines before it results in a serious accident resulting in significant injury or death .” ”

He also offered to provide the Council with photographs illustrating the above issues.

In response, a spokesperson for Denbighshire County Council said: “We thank the residents’ group for bringing this issue to our attention.”

“We are happy to accept their offer to provide photos and also for any specific issues as this can help make enforcement more efficient.”

“We will also ask our park enforcement team to increase patrols in Meliden.”

North Wales Police have also been contacted for comment.
