2 dead, 19 passengers injured in bus accident

In a tragic incident, 21 passengers traveling in a PRTC bus from Chandigarh to Bathinda sustained injuries after their vehicle met with an accident near Bhawanigarh on Friday evening. Of these, two passengers died during treatment at the government-run Rajindra Hospital in Patiala.

The deceased are Gurpreet Kaur, a resident of Tungawali village in Bathinda, and Rajinder Kumar of Balad Kalan village near Bhawanigarh.

The accident occurred after the bus suddenly went into a gallop and the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road.

Bhawanigarh Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vinod Kumar, said 21 injured passengers were admitted to the Community Health Centre. He said two passengers were discharged after providing first aid, three people were referred to Civil Hospital Sangrur and 16 passengers were referred to Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala.

Bhawanigarh SHO Gurnam Singh said, “Out of 16 passengers referred to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, two persons succumbed to their injuries.” He said a case has been registered against the driver of the canter based on the statement of injured passengers .
