Officer stabbed, suspected attacker dead outside Santa Monica police station – NBC Los Angeles

A man was shot and killed after stabbing an officer outside the doors of a Santa Monica police station on Saturday.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, at approximately 5:21 p.m., an officer was confronted outside a police station by a man in his 30s who pulled a knife on him and began attacking him for no reason.

The man armed with the knife struck and stabbed the officer and continued to follow him as the officer attempted to retreat around the corner of the building.

The officer drew his weapon and opened fire. Santa Monica officers provided medical aid to the suspect until firefighters arrived, but he succumbed to his injuries.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital with serious stab wounds but is expected to survive, police said.
