Garo Hills: Tragic landslide in Garo Hills claims seven lives, including children | Shillong News

Shillong: Seven members of a family, including three children, were buried alive under rubble in a serious accident landslide Triggered by torrential rain in the village of Hatiasia Songma in the south Garo Hills district on Saturday.
A search operation is underway to recover the bodies, Prime Minister Conrad K Sangma informed this evening.
On Friday, three persons, including a minor, died due to extensive flood-related landslides at Dalu in West Garo Hills district, taking the human toll due to bad weather in the Garo Hills to 10 so far.
Three people were also injured by landslides, an official report said, adding that they were being treated at health centers.
Sangma chaired a high-level review meeting on Saturday and directed the deputy commissioners of the two districts to voluntarily release the next of kin of the deceased as soon as possible and asked officials to mobilize resources and provide assistance to the affected people.
The CM held a meeting with the district administrations of Garo Hills to assess the destruction caused by relentless rains Floods and landslides that severely affected all five districts in the Garo Hills region, with South, South West and West Garo Hills districts particularly affected.
