ST-ANDRÉ-AVELLIN – A man in his 30s is in critical condition after driving off the road in St-André-Avellin in the Outaouais on Saturday evening, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said.

At approximately 8 p.m., MRC Papineau police officers were called to Route 321 regarding the incident.

“The driver lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason,” said Camille Savoie, a spokesman for the SQ.

No other vehicles were involved.

The man was taken to hospital where authorities fear for his life.

A 19-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was also taken to hospital, but her life is not in danger.

A police officer trained in accident investigation will be on site to clarify the circumstances of the accident. Route 321 is currently closed, the SQ reports.
