What you should know

Michigan has played every game on its home court this season, but they have to play on the road on Saturday. They and the Washington Huskies will face off in a Big Ten Bowl Subdivision battle at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Huskies are coming off a loss in their last game and will look to turn the tables and give the Wolverines a win.

If Michigan beats Washington by 27 points on Saturday, that will be the team’s new lucky number: They have won their last two games by that exact score. Michigan beat Minnesota 27:24. That’s two games in a row in which the Wolverines have won by exactly three points.

Kalel Mullings had an explosive game for Michigan, rushing for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Mullings’ rushing performance has been exceptional of late, as this was his third straight game with at least 111 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Even though they won, Michigan had trouble moving the ball and finished the game with just 241 total yards. That’s the fewest yards they’ve totaled since December 2023.

Armed with a fresh set of downs, Michigan decided to make a rushing play 65.1% of the time. On Saturday, however, the team tried something different and managed just 34.6% of its first downs. Given that they averaged a pitiful four yards per game, they probably won’t try that again anytime soon.

Meanwhile, Washington may have lost first blood to Rutgers last Friday, but it was Rutgers that got the last laugh. Washington narrowly trailed Rutgers by a score of 21-18. The Huskies gained 222 more yards on the day, but it was the Scarlet Knights who took full advantage of them.

No one from Washington had a standout game, but they did get points from Will Rogers and Denzel Boston.

Michigan’s win was their third straight at home, increasing their record to 4-1. As for Washington, the loss ended a five-game road win streak dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.

The game on Saturday could be decided on site. Michigan has been excellent on the ground this season, averaging 194.8 rushing yards per game. However, it’s not like Washington is struggling in this regard, as the average is 173.2. It looks like there will be some serious trench fighting in Saturday’s clash.

Michigan hopes to beat the odds on Saturday as experts believe they are headed for a loss. This is the first time they have played away as underdogs this season.
