Van Halen legend wants to build Las Vegas resort | Cats | Entertainment

For Sammy HagarIt was a pretty conventional weekend in VegasVille. Celebrate some benchmarks. Gather some hardware. Plug in some products. Rock the house.

And in this case, you’re pitching an ambitious plan to develop a hotel-casino in Las Vegas.

“I have plans. “The Cabo Wabo Resort and Casino,” Hagar said Friday, shortly after receiving a key to the Las Vegas Strip at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. “I really still plan on doing it and this is the city I want to do it in. If not here, I’ll find someone else.”

Then Hagar grinned and said, “Guys, hug me!”

This concept has been in Hagar’s mind for more than a year. He envisions a world-class Cabo Wabo steakhouse, themed bars, a spa, rolling food trucks with authentic Mexican fare and, of course, a Cabo Wabo-style nightclub with live music.

“I have a few owners who say, ‘Yeah, we’ll round up the money if you really want it,'” Hagar said. “And I really want to, but right now we’re just arguing.”

The few hundred redheads, members of Hagar’s international fan club, would be present at the groundbreaking and opening of Sammy’s Cabo Wabo Resort. They hung out like that for a few hours as Hagar’s most important event was scheduled to take place in front of the Cabo Wabo Cantina Club on the Strip.

The event was held late because Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson got into a traffic disruption related to the F1 construction (locals were quick to notice this karmic incident).

It turns out that the inspector can’t drive 55 either.

But the celebration was joyful, if hot, as Hagar was celebrating the club’s 15th anniversary (yours truly introduced Hagar and Gibson, who were also at the opening in 2009).

The Red Rocker was approaching his 77th birthday on October 13th and later played a party concert with the Redheads at Pearl at the Palms The circlehis tour-de-force backing band of bassists Michael Anthonyguitarist Vic Johnson and drummer Kenny Aranofffill out for Jason Bonham at this appearance.

Rick Springfield showed up, as is usual at Hagar events, and raced through “I Did Everything for You.” The song was originally written and recorded by Hagar and did nothing. But Springfield’s cover was a Top 10 hit as the follow-up to “Jesse’s Girl.”

Springfield was in town to perform the finale of the free Downtown Rocks concert series on Fremont Street. These two rockers have a long history and are business partners in the cocktail brand Sammy’s Beach Bar.

Hagar is fresh off his Best of All Worlds tour and spent the rest of his weekend reveling at his Sammy’s Island party deck at the Palms.

On the just-completed tour, Hagar mixed his own hits with Van Halen classics. This was a high volume experience. Rock superstar Joe Satrianis The guitar was turned up to 11 (supposedly).

“Joe plays so loud because he has to be at a certain volume to get his feedback and because he’s able to do what he does,” Hagar said. “And I understand, but boy. Then Mikey said, ‘Well, I gotta show up too so I can hear myself!’ It was the loudest band I’ve ever been in.”

And he was in Van Halen.

On the VH topic, Hagar still hasn’t heard from his former bandmate, the drummer Alex Van HaleNwho will publish his autobiography “Brothers” on October 22nd.

“I have reached out, but I will no longer contact Alex. He doesn’t want to be friends. I’m not going to pursue anyone, but I still love the guy,” Hagar said. “Maybe he doesn’t like me for some reason. Maybe I’m too happy for him. I’m too happy for a lot of people.”

As if to emphasize this, Hagar laughed.

“You know, the only people I ever made enemies with were people who were miserable,” he said. “I drive her crazy after a while.”

Tease that

A true R&B legend has signed on for a full-scale musical adaptation of his band’s rise to fame. Think Four Seasons and “Jersey Boys,” but with funk and a story for all time.

Who was where

Jack Mathe billionaire founder of the multinational technology conglomerate Alibaba Group, was at Omnia at Caesars Palace on Friday evening.

If you have that kind of money, you can get in the booth with a star DJ Martin Garrixwhat mom did.

Cool hang alarm

The flawless singer Chadwick Johnson plays Myron’s at the Smith Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. “What the World Needs Now” features the music of Burt Bacharach and Quincy Jonesfrom Johnson’s new EP “Seasons Change,” out now. Johnson is supported by A-Plus players Jason Corpuz at the piano, Nick Schmitt on bass, Jeremy Klewicki on drums, Tasos Peltekis on the guitar, Adrianna Thurber on violin and Sarah Chaffee on cello.

I’ve been following CJ in Las Vegas for about a decade and he’s the real deal. For more information, visit thesmithcenter.com.
