Battlefield Police prepare citizens in the event of an active shooter situation

BATTLEFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Battlefield Police are preparing citizens on what to do in the event of an active shooter situation.

It is a free course open to the entire community. It’s an opportunity for community members to learn about some events happening around the country, learn what to do if they ever find themselves in a similar situation, and get answers to their questions.

According to the BBC, there have been more than 385 mass shootings in the US so far this year.

Sergeant Jarrod Field of the Battlefield Police Department said Saturday’s event will help people prepare in the event an active shooter is present.

“We will talk to people about how to avoid situations like this if they arise,” Sergeant Field said. “We will talk about how to deny entry, whether in a building, at work, at school or even in a restaurant, if you are eating something. And how do you defend yourself in this situation?”

Sergeant Field said if you were not present on Saturday there would be further presentations in the future depending on public interest. He said you should contact police if you plan to attend a future event.
