Phillies vs. Mets, 2024 NLDS schedule: Where to watch MLB playoff games, TV coverage of postseason baseball

The past week has been a study in contrasts for the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies before their NLDS battle begins on Saturday.

The Mets needed to win a game in a doubleheader in Atlanta on Monday. They made it and reached the Wild Card Series against the Brewers in Milwaukee, which meant flying from Atlanta to Milwaukee, Atlanta to Milwaukee in less than a week. They won Game 1, beat Game 2 in the eighth inning and then stormed back in the ninth inning to steal Game 3 on Thursday. The Phillies, on the other hand, had a bye and were in Philadelphia all week waiting for an opponent.

In the first-ever postseason meeting of the NL East opponents, the Mets emerged victorious after a wild eighth-inning comeback in which they scored five runs after being shut out by Zack Wheeler up to that point.

The Phillies won the season series 7-6 and outscored the Mets 69-59. However, they last played in New York from September 19th to 22nd and the Mets won three of four games.

Here’s what you need to know about every team in the NLDS:

Phillies: They finished the season with the second-best record in baseball at 95-67, their best regular season since 2011. The first half was a monster, however, as the Phillies were 33-33 after the All-Star break and were tied 10- 11 in the last 21 games. However, they have the personnel to flip the proverbial switch as they have four All-Star starting players, a strong offense and a strong bullpen.

Mets: The 2024 Mets just aren’t giving up. The club has had their backs against the wall for what seems like a week and every time they have found a way to win. Although the Mets finished six games behind the Phillies in the East, keep in mind that they had the best record in baseball in June. Since the beginning of the month, they have a 65-40 record in the regular season and a 2-1 record in the playoffs. At this point the offense has a swagger about them and they can never be counted out.
