Two adults and a child were seriously injured in a crash in Norwich, officials said

NORWICH — A car crash on Taftville-Occum Road Friday evening sent two adults and a child to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The car left the road around 6:18 p.m. and struck two 20-foot trees, causing them to fall, the Taftville Volunteer Fire Department said. The car then turned 180 degrees and “backed into a large double tree,” the authority said.

Responders used the Jaws of Life, rescue ropes and other tools to remove one of the three passengers from the car, the department said. This process took 18 minutes. The other two passengers freed themselves from the vehicle.

The two adults and child suffered life-threatening injuries and were taken to Backus Hospital, officials said. According to the department, one of the adults was taken to Hartford Hospital while the child was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Norwich Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
