Exactly one month until election day

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Saturday marks exactly one month until Election Day.

Over the past two weeks, more than 5,450 people have already cast their ballots in the 2024 presidential election in Richmond, and about 512 people voted on Friday, according to the city’s election office.

“Now that everything has normalized a little bit, we’ve seen that people are more comfortable coming and voting in person,” said Keith Balmer, the city of Richmond’s general registrar.

One Richmond man, Casey Peoples, has been voting for decades and has no plans to miss this election.

“I will vote early; We will do it,” he said.

He shared that voting is important – it is the way we have a voice in the political world.

“Voting has a very strong meaning, voting is a criterion for democracy… Voting gives you the opportunity to make decisions,” Casey Peoples said.

Aside from the race between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris, Virginia voters will also vote on a vacant Senate seat and a number of U.S. House seats.

With just a month to go until these races are decided, according to the Richmond elections office, more than five hundred people cast their votes on Friday alone.

While you can vote early in the week, the first early voting opportunities on Saturday are October 26th and November 2nd.

“I guarantee there will be a huge crowd on these Saturdays,” Balmer said.

A general message: If you are old enough to vote, go to the polls and cast your vote.
