Amanda Abbingdon confirms cancer scare caused her to quit Strictly

The BBC apologized to Abbington, 50, and acknowledged some of her complaints against Pernice, 33, but cleared him of the most serious allegations of “physical aggression” in a previously published review.

Now Abbington has spoken about what prompted her to leave Strictly, revealing that things with Pernice were so bad that she was relieved when a cancer scare forced her to leave the show.

When she first left the show in week six of the season, she cited “personal and medical” reasons, but has now shared that she had two lumps in her breasts – both of which turned out to be harmless.

She told The Sun: “In my last week, on Thursday morning, I was in the shower and discovered two lumps. “I was given the all-clear after a mammogram a few months ago.

“I went to rehearsals to do the cha-cha-cha and just couldn’t concentrate. Giovanni said: “There’s no point in teaching you because it won’t go in. You can’t understand it. “We’ll be lucky if we get through it, because you’re useless.”

She went on to say that she was so frustrated with the professional – who reportedly refused to look at her – that at one point she came back into the room and told him she was going to the hospital to have the lumps checked.

She continued that it was the “catalyst” she was waiting for to get out of the toxic situation.
