Showtrial boss on show’s climate change story: ‘We pride ourselves on upsetting people’

During a recent question and answer session for the show, executive producer Simon Heath was asked if he was ever nervous about taking up such controversial topics of discussion, to which he replied: “We pride ourselves on being a bit provocative and people to upset.”

“I don’t think we’re doing our job if we’re not really doing it. Actually, the thing with climate change is probably always the concern that people think that you’re going to do something reasonably worthwhile.” a little bit of whole wheat bread and a little bit of wokeness.

“And I think what was smart and what was Ben [Richards, creator] In my opinion, it did as the best drama should: it’s not about taking a stand. It’s about giving all voices equal weight and then letting the audience decide.”

Richards revealed that he sees Akhtar’s character, the defense attorney, in many ways as a cipher for his own views on the matters discussed, before adding: “I think there’s actually a lot to be angry and upset about.”

“Not particularly any side of the culture war, but actually, I’m going to sound ridiculous from a basic morality standpoint.”

He continued: “But you should also try not to wag your finger at people, you should try not to lecture people, you should try not to tell people that there is a right and a wrong way to everything answer, and you should try to recognize the humor and humanity in situations.”

“The internet is such a horrible place, full of people screaming and swearing at each other, and I always think that people in the real world tend to have much more relaxed and humorous conversations about these things. Actually, we don’t.” Get as angry and hateful as the internet often does.

“So I tried to capture that and say, ‘Yes, you can have attitudes and things, you can have opinions about things, but you can also laugh about it with your loved ones, it doesn’t have to be everything.’ an all-or-nothing thing’.”

During the question-and-answer session, Richards also explained why he chose not to bring back characters from Season 1 for Season 2, saying it was primarily for reasons of “fundamental realism.”

Showtrial will return on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday October 6th.
