All-Ireland champions Glen defied massive panic to beat Lavey late (1-11 to 0-13) and progress to the semi-finals of the Derry Senior Football Championship.

There appeared to be an upset at Owenbeg after Lavey went a point ahead with two minutes left in regulation time, but the defending champions equalized before Conleth McGuckian scored the winner late in stoppage time.

Ethan Doherty’s goal late in the first half ensured Malachy O’Rourke’s men took the lead at half-time (1-3 to 0-4). However, the underdogs struggled to find an equalizer until the second half and after Emmet Bradley and Niall Toner swapped points, it was the 2018 runners-up who moved to the top.

Glen demonstrated the courage of a champion by surpassing the last two points in the added minutes to become the first team to reach the last four of this year’s John McLaughlin Cup race and keep their title hopes alive in the process.
