According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, two vehicles collided head-on at the intersection of State Highway 56 and County Road 3212 between Windom and Dodd City.

Fannin County, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified all five people who died in a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 56 near County Road 3212 October 2, 2024, 11:26 a.m.

DPS identified the victims as Nestor Gonzalez-Valerio, 57, Jose Urbina, 23, Oneyda Zamora, 28, Ernestina Castillo-Alfaro, 30, of Bonham, and 26-year-old Rosa Trochez-Montenegro.

All five victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Honda Civic, operated by Alfaro, was traveling eastbound and a 2024 GMC Sierra C2500 was traveling westbound on SH-56.

According to DPS, Alfaro, who was traveling at an unsafe speed, lost control on a curve, crossed into the oncoming lane and crashed into the GMC Sierra.

The driver of the GMC, David Strong, 48, of Robinson, and his passenger, Craig Moody, 62, suffered serious injuries in the accident.

Both Strong and Moody were transported to Texoma Medical Center in Denison.

Fannin County, TX — A two-vehicle crash at a Fannin County intersection Wednesday afternoon left up to five people dead and two others injured, according to a police report.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, two vehicles collided head-on at the intersection of State Highway 56 and County Road 3212 between Windom and Dodd City.

According to DPS, five people died in the collision. The names of the victims were not immediately released.

Two other people were taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

No further information was provided about how the accident occurred.
