Penn State vs. UCLA

The Nittany Lions once again got off to a slow start, failing to score a touchdown in the first quarter and only had 14 points before halftime. However, the offense picked up steam after that, scoring on the next four possessions before a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter.

Penn State quarterback Drew Allar started just as slowly, taking a 4-2 lead early in the game before getting hot and finishing the first half 10-for-14 for 129 yards. As Allar caught looks he liked during the game, he attacked down the field, particularly to set up receiver Liam Clifford. The veteran was the receiver of the moment this week, with three catches for 107 yards.

The team was also without top game-breaker Nick Singleton. Kaytron Allen carried the load in his absence, rushing 21 times for 78 yards. Freshman Quinton Martin showed off some of his strong skills with three catches for 18 yards and several strong runs with several broken tackles.

Penn State’s defense once again dominated the third quarter

Once again, Penn State’s defense, like its offense, started slowly, giving up a six-play drive that took up six minutes of the first quarter but ended with a failed fourth-down attempt by UCLA.

However, the defense allowed the offense to take the lead midway through the game, as it typically does this season. UCLA gained -9 yards in the third quarter and managed just nine plays en route to the loss.

It was a big game for two players who have struggled recently. Security Zakee Wheatley finished the game with seven tackles and Tony Rojas completed with eight.
