Nashik: A 59-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Criminal Division suffered knife injuries while arresting a criminal who was terrorizing people Dindori Naka Panchavati area on Friday evening.

According to police, ASI Sonawane had finished his work shift and was on his way home. At around 8.15 pm, while he was driving through Dindori Naka area in Panchavati, he saw Jadhav, a history-sheeter according to police, brandishing a knife and terrorizing passers-by in the area.
Sonawane stopped his bike on the side of the road to see who was terrorizing the people and hawkers in the area. Sonawane went towards the criminal to arrest him and take the knife from his hand.
Senior police officials said that the ASI refused to release him despite Jadhav warning Sonawane that he would kill him. Jadhav then stabbed Sonawane in the stomach, pushed him aside and started running.
ACP (Crime) Sandeep Mikte said that despite suffering an abdominal injury, ASI Sonawane ran behind him and held him. API VN Padolkar said a police team conducted nakabandi around 100 meters from the incident. As soon as they came to know about the scuffle, they reached the spot and seized Jadhav.
While the police team took Jadhav to the police station, ASI Sonawane went to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. After completing the medical examination, he went to Panchavati police station where he lodged a complaint based on which the police lodged an FIR against Jadhav for an offense punishable under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). is punishable. .
Senior police officers, including Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Prashant Bacchav and other senior police officials lauded the courage shown by Sonawane in arresting the criminal.
Jadhav has registered cases like attempt to murder, robbery etc at Sarkarwada and Panchavati police stations in the city.
