Oxford County man charged with sexually assaulting elderly woman

MEXICO – A 69-year-old woman was the victim of a sexual assault just after midnight on Oct. 3 that led to the arrest of a Rumford man, authorities said.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office reported a response to a residence in Mexico where the attack occurred.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, suffered minor injuries in the attack, including bruises and abrasions.

She was taken to Rumford Hospital for evaluation and treatment and was later released.

Investigators identified 47-year-old Mark Sturtevant as the suspect.

Sturtevant, also of Rumford, was located by officers and investigators, arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault.

He was booked into the Oxford County Jail without incident.

Authorities described the incident as isolated and noted that the victim and Sturtevant met in a public setting before the attack.
