A 29-year-old mother was stabbed to death in a Bronx deli

A 29-year-old mother, Gwendolyn Guyton, was tragically stabbed during a violent altercation at a Bronx deli on Thursday afternoon.

According to the NYPD, Guyton was fatally stabbed by another woman at the Jose Mini Mart at 549 Southern Blvd in Longwood around 3:15 p.m. Witnesses said it was the result of an argument that escalated.

Guyton entered the bodega and her attacker walked in shortly after. Words were exchanged, then a knife came out.

The altercation quickly escalated into a physical altercation before the attacker fatally stabbed Guyton multiple times in the neck and torso.

According to police, surveillance video showed the suspect riding away on a white scooter after allegedly stabbing Guyton.

Alex, a bodega employee, recounted his desperate attempt to intervene.

“I tried to save the girl and at the same time get her out of the store before she was stabbed,” he told reporters. “But when I saw the knife, I tried to help the victim.”

Despite efforts by Alex and a colleague to render aid while Guyton waited for doctors, Guyton’s injuries proved fatal.

Guyton was the mother of a 10-year-old. A close friend of hers, who wished to remain anonymous, said Guyton was the “sweetest person you would want to meet.”

According to Pix 11, the suspect has not yet been arrested.

A candle-filled vigil was held outside the bodega in Guyton’s honor.
