The Line of Duty star’s new BBC drama releases its first trailer

The BBC has released the first trailer for upcoming Lennie James drama Mr. Loverman” published.

The Line of Duty actor plays a 74-year-old Antigua-born man named Barrington “Barry” Jedidiah Walker in the series, who is known in Hackney for his bubbly personality and retro suits.

Although Barry’s wife of 50 years (Sharon D. Clarke) suspects that her husband has cheated on her, she doesn’t know that he is having a passionate affair with his best friend Morris (Ariyon Bakare).

The trailer gives us a brief glimpse into Barry’s life and his secret affair with Morris, who tells him, “You’re a homosexual, Barry.”

“I’m not a homosexual,” Barry replies. “I’m a Barry sexual.”

Elsewhere, Barry’s wife Carmel asks “what happened to their relationship”, while in another scene Morris tells Barry that he is a cheater.

“But not in the way she thinks,” insists Barry.

The eight-part series, based on the book of the same name by Bernardine Evaristo, launches with two episodes on Monday, October 14, at 9pm and 9.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

Other cast members include Time’s Tamara Lawrance, Small Ax’s Sharlene Whyte, Death in Paradise’s Tahj Miles, EastEnders’ Suzette Llewellyn, Boiling Point’s Hopi Grace, Top Boy’s Llewella Gideon, Sex Education’s Doreene Blackstock, The Doctor’s Juliet Garricks and Clint Dyer from Black Mirror.

Lennie James previously said of the adaptation: “I can’t wait to bring Barrington’s swagger to life and help tell this pivotal and complicated love story. As funny as it is sad. As full of heart as sorrow.”

Mr Loverman starts on October 14th at 9pm and 9.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
