Narendra Modi Temple founder Mayur Mundhe quits the BJP

Mundhe had earlier said that he built the temple as a mark of respect for Prime Minister Modi, who was like a “god” to him. He had argued that he started the temple despite strong objections from the BJP’s national leadership because he wanted a place where Modi could be worshiped for himself and other “supporters”.

In his sharp resignation letter, he stressed that the party’s core principles had changed drastically, with the party now focusing on political outsiders rather than long-time party loyalists like himself. For Mayur Mundhe, it seems that his “God” was no longer enough to keep him in the party!

This growing culture of turning politicians into “gods” is being witnessed across India in recent times. Caught up in their emotions, people often fail to separate the earthly from the divine, blurring the fine line between viewing a person as an idol and turning them into a god, often leading to authoritarianism.

People need to wake up and realize that politicians need to be treated as such so that they don’t take you for granted. Their politics influence our daily lives, and instead of worshiping them, we should learn to hold them accountable for the office they hold.
