Roker Report Predictions: SAFC vs Leeds

“The Champion” Martin Wanless predicts…

Result Prediction: Sunderland 2 Leeds Utd 0

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Mundle

I thought we performed well on Tuesday without being at our best and that we need to put in a strong performance again tonight.

Leeds haven’t had the best start but they are a good, dangerous team and we have to give our best.

I think, barring injuries, we’ll probably see an unchanged team so fatigue could come into play, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we get another 3 points and go into the international break top of the league.

Malc Dugdale predicts…

Result Prediction: Sunderland 2 Leeds Utd 1

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Mundle

It’s going to be tough tonight but we’ve been in top form at home and Leeds have been on the road all week and are struggling with several injury problems.

While I think we might let one in (we were honestly very lucky not to get it against Derby, the defense and goalkeeper did incredibly well on more than one occasion), I think the Combination of travel and injuries playing a role in her and her fitness. The support of our team and being at home will help us remedy the situation.

A win by one goal or another and Mundle scores again in front of the fans he adores and who adore him. Sweet like.

Jack Howe-Gingell predicts…

Result Prediction: Sunderland 1 Leeds Utd 0

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Isidor

It was nice to get back to winning ways quickly and to be able to do that without really leaving second gear will be a help in a game where we have to shoot for a result with all our might.

I’m expecting something similar to the games against Burnley and Middlesbrough, with Leeds probably wanting to bring the game to us. They have plenty of attacking talent, but I have faith in our steely rearguard. Perhaps Alan Browne could be brought in to add some strength in the middle, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we remain unchanged for the third season in a row.

We have to try and be tough, but we feel that we can get a little bit of magic and finish the game.

Will Jones predicts…

Result Prediction: Sunderland 1 Leeds Utd 0

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Mundle

After a set-piece win midweek, the boys stay home to face the team everyone believes can win the title.

Leeds are very hot and cold this season and should take all three points. However, given that the boys have won all of their games at home this season without conceding a goal and Leeds have a lot of injuries, I can imagine us keeping a clean sheet again.

It took so long to set the score that I was torn between 0-0 and 1-0. However, Bomber will put anyone on the list who doesn’t think we’ll score, so I’ve decided we’ll win to zero.

Matty Foster predicts…

Result Prediction: Sunderland 1 Leeds Utd 1

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Isidor

When I look at Leeds’ squad, I don’t think there’s any doubt that we’re up against one of the heavyweights in the division tonight.

If we can take points from the game, our performance here will be important evidence of our promotion chances.

Leeds have made a decent start but their expectations are higher than any other team as they narrowly missed out on promotion last season.

So far they have only conceded five goals, three of which came in the first game!

Our home form is impeccable, we haven’t even conceded a goal, let alone lost. But at some point everything has to come to an end.

This could honestly go either way, hence my reluctance.

Bomber Davies predicts…

Result Prediction: Sunderland 2 Leeds Utd 1

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: O’Nien

4 games, 4 wins, 4 goals conceded! How can I not support us against anyone at home now?!

It’s difficult to truly assess Leeds’ start to the season. The draw at West Brom seems like a good result but they lost at home to Burnley where we won. The rest of the results are those you would expect.

Two away games in four days won’t help their cause if they go from Leeds to Norwich and then to Sunderland instead of our players going home to their beds and preparing in the academy all week, but don’t do one on paper Mistake, the Leeds side is a very good one.

I can’t get past our home form at the moment and while I know we will lose in SoL at some point this season, I don’t think it will be tonight.

With that I’ll compromise and predict another win, but the end of our home run without conceding a goal and a header from Luke O’Nien to get us going.

Gary Winter predicts…

Result Prediction: Sunderland 1 Leeds Utd 1

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Mundle

Finally I’m wrong with a correct score line! I said I wasn’t worried after the defeat at Watford and the boys bounced back easily this week. Wilson Isidor picked up where he left off, building on the promise he showed in his first start and giving us all hope that he is the goalscorer we have been missing.

RLB should really bring in a few players to freshen things up as this is our third game in a week and it felt sluggish at times against Derby. But I don’t think he will, which is why I fear we may not have enough reserves to take the win.

I can imagine it ending in a draw as the fatigue will be evident

I still believe Mundle is the most dangerous player, so I’m backing him to score another goal to end his three-game losing streak.

Brett Lyons-Davis predicts…

Result Prediction: Sunderland 1 Leeds Utd 0

Sunderland’s first goalscorer: Roberts

This will be hard. We will get a victory, but it could go either way.

I’m very busy at work and don’t want a yellow card for making my prediction late, and this week the games are intense and fast… so I’ll just say Patrick Roberts scores a 1-0 win. Bosh.

Last game predictions

Everyone was aiming for a win against the Rams, and some of the boys got the right result of 2-0, but unfortunately no one was aiming for a 2-0 win with Jobe’s absolute performance, so the most three points were collected in our team of writers .

Martin gets two points for result and goalscorer, as does Will, the rest of the boys only get one point.

Current status

Will jumps to the top of our table (as does Sunderland), with his two points giving him a slight lead over Malc’s one.

And what’s more important: Gary has made his decision! Since he didn’t predict a draw and we saw our win, hopefully his curse will now be lifted. However, this time he bet on a draw…

With all the shackles of the hoodoo lifted, we’ll probably now see the handsome boy from the south try to climb the table in the coming games… but we’d rather see a home win tonight.

The boys weren’t at their best at home against Derby but to be fair to the visitors they gave us a tougher game than many expected.

Leeds are a bit banged up due to significant injuries to some key players and hopefully very tired after playing a lot of away games – the last three were Cardiff, then at home to Coventry, then away to Norwich, and now they come to Sunderland, all in less than 2 weeks.

It will be interesting to see how this develops with all these factors. It could well be an easier win than the derby – we usually play well against the better teams.

We keep our fingers crossed and have full confidence in Reggie!

How points are awarded

Just a quick reminder of how we assign points to our match-by-match predictions:

  • Correct result = three points
  • Correct result (but not correct score) = One point
  • Correct first Sunderland goalscorer = One point (no goalscorer is a valid statement)
  • Possible deductions for laziness and not submitting on time = yellow card, then a deduction of two points.
