Shots were fired at SFPD officers in SoMa and one was arrested

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Police took one person into custody Thursday evening after a shooting at plainclothes officers in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood, the San Francisco Police Department said.

Police operations take place on Mission Street between 8th Street and 10th Street. On Thursday evening, the public was advised to avoid the area.

The shots were fired at 9th and Mission around 8:15 p.m., police said. There are no reports of any victims being struck by gunfire.

SFPD tracked down the suspect and arrested him with the assistance of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department.

“Members of the SFPD were shot at tonight,” said SFPD Chief Bill Scott. “This violent episode highlights the dangers our officers face every day. I want to thank our brave officers for their heroic work in arresting a violent suspect and taking him off the streets. Thank you to the SF Sheriff’s Office for your assistance in this case.”
