The village drama starts slowly, but is quite captivating

Balu (Shiva Ramachandravarapu) owns his ancestral theater in a small village. Due to the lack of audience participation, it broadcasts erotic films. This creates a bad image for him in his village. Being upset about this, he borrows ten lakhs from his evil uncle (Raghu Kunche) and plans to telecast a Balakrishna film. But shortly before the premiere, an old man accidentally dies in the theater and everyone begins to suspect Baloo. Who killed the old man and how Baloo got out of the mess is the basic story of the film.

Balu Gani Talkies, the eye-opening original directed by Viswanth, is a simple thriller set in a small village with few characters. Although the film doesn’t shock you, it doesn’t bore you either. After a very lethargic start, the film enters a thriller zone and doesn’t slow down from there.

Things look easy but they are not because the twists that the film has are very good. The cat and mouse game between police officers, perpetrators and misleading identities is handled in a very exciting way. Since the running time of the film is quite sharp, Balu Gani Talkies is an interesting film to watch on OTT.

However, there are major problems with Balu Gani Talkies. It takes at least twenty minutes to get going. Also, the dubbing is bad as the sound design is terrible and makes everything look bad. You also get a feeling for why such a film is made on a low budget. But once you get used to the atmosphere, things start to make sense.

Balu Gani Talkies

One of the biggest highlights of the film is the climax, which is shocking and not many would suspect it. The ending is bold and also makes a lot of sense. Balu Gani Talkies would have been a great film if more famous faces had played the key roles. The lack of inexperience is evident in the characters of the police officer and the main villain’s henchmen. The script should have been gripping and more thrills and suspense would have made sense in the narrative.

One of the scenes where the hero is left in no man’s land and tries strange antics to get out of the case was handled quite well. In the performances, Shiva Ramachandravarapu plays the lead role and suits his role perfectly. All these days Shiva Ramachandravarapu has been playing negative roles and casting him in a role that has negative nuances is a perfect fit. He did well in the film and his reckless energy gives the film a new perspective.

Saranya Sharma plays the female lead and she is very good. Although she has a limited role, the way she acts in key scenes creates an impact. Raghu Kunche is portrayed as the main villain. Although he behaves well, his role is not used properly. The actor playing the cop is fine but overacts for no reason. The rest of the cast is new and doesn’t create much of an impact.

When it comes to technical aspects, Balu Gani Talkies looks dull in the first part of the film, has poor sound design and blurry images. The post production isn’t done properly and you feel like the director couldn’t do much either as he had to release the film on OTT. The locations in the village, the theater set up and the village slang used are perfect. Finally, Balu Gani Talkies has its moments, although it starts slowly and has new faces. Once you get used to the pace, you’ll end up liking the film.

Review of Balu Gani Talkies:

On the whole, Balu Gani Talkies is a passable crime thriller with a decent amount of thrills. If you can endure the first fifteen minutes, the film will captivate you with its captivating plot. You can stream the film on Aha.
