New York man who filmed himself sexually abusing Oregon child sentenced

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A New York man will spend 15 years in federal prison after traveling to southern Oregon to sexually abuse a minor.

On Thursday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon announced that Brent Johnson Jr. was sentenced to 15 years in prison and a life sentence on supervised release.

The office reported that the 26-year-old man first communicated with the child through an online video game in August 2021. According to officials, he continued to contact the minor through text messages and phone calls after they exchanged phone numbers.

USAO did not release the child’s age but said Johnson “did not let that deter him” when he traveled to Oregon to sexually abuse her and videotape the incident. The minor’s mother contacted authorities after receiving texts and photos from Johnson in February 2022, the office reported.

A federal grand jury in Medford indicted him in May 2022 on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, distribution of child pornography and traveling with the intent to engage in illegal sexual conduct. He pleaded guilty to the first two charges in June of this year.
