Nicola Bulley’s final text before tragic death was revealed during the inquest

Nicola Bulley’s last text before she disappeared after walking her dog has been revealed.

The Brit was last seen with her dog Willow on the River Wyre in Lancashire on January 27, 2023 and the media attention to her case brought her into the public eye.

Rescue workers and police searched tirelessly for the missing mother-of-two until her body was tragically discovered weeks later.

It was concluded that she had accidentally fallen into the water and died.

It was a traumatizing case for her family and especially her loved ones, who recently expressed their real views on her case in a new BBC documentary released last night (October 3).

A number of conspiracy theories were raised against the Bulley family as social media users made several unsubstantiated claims about her disappearance, which her partner Paul Ansell said was “emotionally distressing” to talk about.

Dr. James Adeley, senior coroner for Lancashire, also revealed during last year’s inquest that Nicola was “alive when she went into the water”. , as well as what her last words were.

The court heard evidence from Home Office pathologist Alison Armor on the first day of the inquest, as Armor reconstructed Nicola’s last day, focusing on a text message exchange between her and her friend Lucy as they planned a playdate for their daughters.

The last text message Nicola received and sent was recorded as it emerged that she had texted Lucy the night before she disappeared, who replied the next morning after seeing the text message.

Responding at 8:13 a.m., Lucy later told the court: “I said my daughter would like to come and play.”

Then, at 8:59 a.m., Nicola replied and confirmed the time with a smiley face. The mums also had plans to meet up the next day, as Lucy revealed: “We were going to meet up, a group of mums, for a few drinks on Saturday evening.”

Armour, who also carried out Nicola’s post-mortem, confirmed at the inquest last year that water was found in her lungs and the cause of death was drowning.

The coroner asked Armor to summarize what she had found, stating: “I conclude that the cause of death is drowning. The lungs themselves showed classic features we see in drownings. In my opinion, Nicola Bulley was still alive when she went into the water.”

She also revealed that water in the lungs indicates an “active process” called swallowing, which was a sign that Bulley was alive when he entered the river, and noted that no illnesses or brain hemorrhages were detected. No traces of harmful drugs and a low alcohol content were also found.

The Search for Nicola Bulley is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
