Man killed in Houston bicycle accident on South Wayside Drive

Houston, TX – Houston police are investigating a fatal bike-versus-car crash on South Wayside Drive in Houston early Thursday morning.

The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. today at 5700 South Wayside Drive.

According to HPD, a man was riding his bicycle northbound in the southbound lanes of South Wayside Drive when he was struck by a gray southbound Subaru Baja pickup truck.

HPD said the man, who did not have a reflector, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the cyclist, believed to be in his 50s or 60s, remains to be verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The driver of the Subaru, a 25-year-old man, showed no signs of intoxication. He remained at the scene and was released after questioning.

The accident remains under investigation.
