Pete Alonso’s huge moment with the Mets sent the Citi Field watch party into a frenzy

The Mets may have been 900 miles away in Milwaukee, but Citi Field was the place to be on a night where the Mets’ miraculous season continued with an astonishing 4-2 victory over the Brewers in Game 3 on Wednesday night National League to be promoted to league division series.

The thousands of Mets fans who attended the quickly organized watch party in Queens went crazy when Pete Alonso hit a three-run home run to give the Mets a 3-2 lead early in the ninth inning.

The crowd’s enthusiasm increased even further when Francisco Lindor hit a double play at the end of the game to secure the win and secure the Mets’ ticket to the next round of the playoffs.

“One of the greatest wins I’ve ever seen,” a fan was heard shouting in a video of the Mets winning the game.

“Oh my God!” and “Let’s go!” could be heard in another jubilant video as fans celebrated the wild victory.

Similar scenes played out when Alonso hit the three-run home run while fans loudly celebrated the events in Milwaukee.

Citi Field wasn’t the only place celebrating the Mets’ victory in New York.

The Empire State Building posted a photo of the landmark lit up in Mets orange and blue, and in a separate post, the account shared a photo of Grimace with a caption thanking the purple McDonald’s character, who has become a quasi-unofficial mascot of the team has become.

The win sets up a showdown between the Mets and the NL East rival Phillies in the division series.

This year also marks the first time since 2006 that the Mets and their American League counterparts, the Yankees, will be in the division series at the same time.

Game 1 between the Phillies and Mets is scheduled for Saturday at 4:05 p.m. and Game 2 will take place on Saturday, with the series moving back to Queens on Tuesday.
