New citizen police app from the Tuscaloosa Police Department

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – A new crime-fighting tool for the Tuscaloosa Police Department. Hundreds have already registered for the new phone app, which is designed to help investigators solve crimes.

What’s special about this statement is the fact that Tuscaloosa Police believe it truly brings new meaning to the word “anonymity.” Officials say it’s already working well.

Veteran attorney Sebo Sanders believes the new TPD phone app could truly transform the way investigators solve crimes; It’s more direct, efficient and private than ever before.

“It is now operational. This is a turning point, a turning point for law enforcement, a turning point for the community and a turning point for safety in your community,” said Deputy Police Chief Sebo Sanders.

“A lot of times people don’t want to call the police and feel like if someone calls, someone will get their information. With this app that is not the case. It is a safe app. You can leave a tip. It helps the community as a whole,” Sanders said.

Sanders says what police are doing is a reflection of the times. He estimates that more than 90% of the American population owns a cell phone. This is another way to avoid a trip to headquarters, report an important tip or simply learn more about what’s going on in Tuscaloosa.

“We even got an app for all city schools. If you have a tip to share about bullying, send that tip and it will go directly to four people associated with the schools,” Sanders said.

A new and significantly improved way to contact the Tuscaloosa Police Department, all at the touch of a button, and it’s already proving very popular. According to Tuscaloosa police, the number of downloads increased from 800 to 9,300 in just a few days.
