Tragic collision on Prayagraj-Varanasi highway leaves 10 dead and 3 injured

A devastating accident occurred on the Prayagraj-Varanasi highway in the early hours of Friday, leaving ten people dead and three others seriously injured. The incident, which involved a speeding truck and a tractor-trailer carrying workers, has sent shockwaves through the community. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash as the victims’ families mourn their loss.

What happened?

The collision occurred on GT Road in Mirzapur district, specifically on the stretch between Prayagraj and Varanasi. According to Mirzapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinandan, the workers were on their way home to Varanasi after completing a roof laying job in Bhadohi. At around 1am on Friday, while the workers were on their way back, a speeding truck collided with their tractor-trolley from behind near Kacchwa on the highway.

“The speeding truck collided with the tractor unit, resulting in this unfortunate incident. All the deceased were from villages under Mirzamurad police station limits in Varanasi,” SP Abhinandan said.

Who are the victims?

The effects of the accident were so severe that ten people lost their lives at the scene of the accident. The deceased were identified as:

  • Bhanu Pratap (25)
  • Vikas Kumar (20)
  • Anil Kumar (35)
  • Suraj Kumar (22)
  • Sanohar (25)
  • Rakesh Kumar (25)
  • Prem Kumar (40)
  • Rahul Kumar (26)
  • Nitin Kumar (22)
  • Roshan (27)

Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of another victim, whose information is still being verified.

Injured people receive medical attention

Three people were also seriously injured in the accident and were taken to Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Hospital for immediate medical attention. The injured were identified as:

  • Akash (18)
  • Jamuni (26)
  • Ajay Saroj (50)

Hospital officials have reported that they are currently in stable condition and are receiving ongoing treatment to support their recovery.

How did the authorities react?

The bodies of the deceased were sent for autopsy. Local authorities are working closely with victims’ families and providing necessary support. SP Abhinandan has assured that the investigation is progressing and all efforts are being made to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the tragic collision.
