K-9 Evening at the Lynchburg Citizens Police Academy

K-9 Evening at the Lynchburg Citizens Police Academy

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Police Department always strives to build trust in its community, and one way to achieve this is through the Community Police Academy.

People can sign up for a nine-week event where police explain some of the reasons why they do things a certain way.

Tonight was K-9 night and the class got to see some of the skills that a K-9 brings to the department.

Officer Steve Rippy says the courses allow officers to show the more human side of the job.

“I’ve never met anyone in this class and neither have you to this day. We’re able to have these intimate conversations and teach people different things because we’re relatable and we’re real people. We can have conversations with people and tell them what we do.”

The Citizens Academy is entering its 27th year.
