Reports: Cincinnati Reds hire World Series-winning manager – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana traffic

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WISH) — The Major League Baseball team closest to the city of Indianapolis has reportedly found its new manager.

According to multiple reports, the Cincinnati Reds are planning to hire Terry Francona as the team’s next manager. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com was the first to report the news. This has since been confirmed by other broadcasters such as ESPN.

Francona is a two-time World Series winner, winning the championship in 2004 and 2007 with the Boston Red Sox.

He last served as an MLB manager in 2023, his final season in Cleveland. He was manager of the Guardians from 2013 to 2023 and led them to the World Series in 2016, where they lost to the Chicago Cubs.

The Reds fired manager David Bell last month before the end of the team’s regular season. Bell captained the Reds towards the end of his sixth season. Bell led the Reds to the postseason only once during his tenure.

Cincinnati finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 77-85, which is 12 games outside of the National League Wild Card.
