Tractor truck catches fire after accident west of Campbell

CAMPBELL, Neb. (KSNB) – A collision involving two semi-trucks and trailers left one vehicle on fire west of Campbell early Wednesday morning.

Officers from Campbell Fire and Rescue and Franklin County responded to the crash at Highway 4 and 43 Road around 1 p.m. Initial callers reported that a tractor-trailer was on fire after the accident.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a Peterbilt tractor-trailer was turning east on Highway 4 from 43 Road when it was struck by a Freightliner tractor-trailer that was traveling westbound on Highway 4.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, both semi-trucks came to rest in nearby ditches and the Freightliner caught fire.

Due to the severity of the accident, Campbell firefighters requested assistance from the Hildreth, Upland and Bladen fire departments.

Officials said both drivers were transported to a hospital.

The accident remains under investigation and the condition of the drivers is unknown.

The Webster County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with traffic control.
