An eight-year-old is killed in a tragic school bus accident

An 8-year-old girl tragically died after being struck by a school bus near her home in Madison, Mississippi on Wednesday afternoon, October 2, 2024. The child, identified as Jeanelle Fredericks, was riding a bicycle when the incident occurred at the intersection of Cobblestone Drive and Rockwood Drive around 4:20 p.m. According to Madison Police Lt. Micah Taylor, first responders provided immediate medical aid and quickly transported her to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries that same evening.

Even more shocking to the community were the first reports and rumors that spread on social media about the driver of the bus. Police have clarified that there are currently no preliminary signs pointing to poisoning. Despite this reevaluation, toxicology tests have been conducted and Madison police are awaiting results as part of their investigation.
