Aurora man arrested in connection with child porn investigation

Police have arrested an Aurora man suspected of storing thousands of images of child pornography on his electronic devices. Content authorities say he tried to hide from investigators by refusing to reveal passcodes for his devices.

The Aurora Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit arrested 27-year-old Aaron Marshall Mocalkins on September 24th. He faces one count of sexual assault of a child, one count of unlawful sexual contact with a child, twelve counts of sexual exploitation of a child, two counts of violating the privacy of a child as a victim for sexual gratification and two counts of sexual exploitation of a child Internet.

The charges, which have not been formally filed by the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office, are felony charges. Mocalkins also faces three counts of animal cruelty.

Aurora police announced the arrest Thursday afternoon.

In March 2022, cybercrimes against children investigators received a tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children that a user of the social media app Kik had child sexual abuse material, according to police. It goes back to Mocalkins refusing to cooperate with investigators.
