The investigation is ongoing after Grand Forks Public Schools reported a case of financial fraud

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (The Flag) – Grand Forks Police are working with the United States Secret Service to investigate a financial fraud case involving Grand Forks public schools. Lieutenant Andrew Stein confirmed the investigation was ongoing. According to a police report, Grand Forks Public Schools reported the scam as a case of wire fraud shortly after noon on Wednesday. According to the report, Grand Forks Public Schools was defrauded of more than $2.2 million.

Stein says the investigation is still ongoing. He says the type of fraud facing Grand Forks Public Schools “is relatively common and is becoming more sophisticated with the technology used by the fraudsters.”

“This matter has been referred to the Grand Forks Police Department and the United States Secret Service for investigation,” Melissa Bakke, communications and marketing manager for Grand Forks Public Schools, said in a statement. “Grand Forks Public Schools cannot comment further as this is an active investigation.”
