Woman found dead in vacant Portage law office

PORTAGE, Mich. – A woman found dead in a vacant office building in Portage has been identified, according to the Portage Department of Public Safety in an update Thursday.

On Monday, public safety officers were called to the former Hettinger Law building on Admiral Avenue to conduct a property check and found Destiny Naigus, 25, of Plainwell, dead in an “unsecured vestibule” of the building.

Naigus is believed to have been in the Kalamazoo and Portage area in recent weeks and was driving a 2009 Honda Accord, according to authorities.

The 25-year-old’s cause of death was still unknown Thursday, public safety officials said.

According to Portage Public Safety Director Nicholas Armold, officers are not investigating Naigus’ death as a homicide but believe her body was taken to the vacant office.
