Uber driver arrested for sexually assaulting passenger picked up in downtown Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – An Uber driver was arrested for sexually assaulting a passenger after being picked up in downtown Gainesville, officials say.

Julio Schlaefli, 50, was arrested on Wednesday for sexual harassment.

Officials with the Gainesville Police Department said Schlaefli picked up the driver downtown early Saturday morning.

The victim was sexually assaulted in the front seat of his vehicle.

Schlaefli has been a rideshare driver in the Gainesville area for about three years. Investigators also suspect he may have bullied other cyclists.
