Man dies after shooting at Miramar apartment complex, neighbors shocked

MIRAMAR — A man who was shot at a Miramar apartment complex early Thursday morning has died.

Neighbors woke up at the scene after police said a man was shot and the gunman fled.

“It was just one shot, one shot,” said “Tico,” who lives in the complex at Miramar Parkway and Red Road.

He said he heard it around 7 a.m. and called 911. Then he heard the screams.

“I suspect it was the girlfriend and she started shouting over to the guy: ‘Alex, Alex, don’t die, Alex, Alex’. They were going back and forth and she was trying to revive him,” Tico said.

Miramar police rushed to the scene within minutes.

“Firefighters took him to Memorial Regional Hospital where he is being treated,” said Miramar police Sgt. Tiffany Roy.

She said they don’t know who the shooter is at this time.

“We had received a call that the suspect had fled the scene before police arrived,” Roy said. “We don’t know if he fled on foot or in a vehicle. That’s why the police set up a cordon, which is why there was so much police activity in the area because they were looking for a suspect,” according to the Times.”

Neighbors said this was a first for them.

“I was shocked. I was very shocked. I couldn’t believe it. I have no problem here. So this is the first time something like this has happened, ever happened,” said another man who lives in the complex.

Miramar police have urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact them or Broward Crime Stoppers.
