Asheville Police Arrest Woman on Attempted Murder Charges After Late Night Shooting

Asheville Police Department (APD) has arrested a woman following an overnight shooting in West Asheville on October 3, according to a news release.

APD responded to investigate reports of a man with a gunshot wound to the head in Laurel Loop in West Asheville at approximately 12:34 a.m. The news release states that upon arrival, officers immediately administered life-saving measures and the victim was transported to Mission Hospital in Leiden. life-threatening injuries.”

According to the report, officers were also able to locate a suspect.

The release states that the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office, working with detectives and forensic investigators, has charged 40-year-old Jessica Barnes Ferland with attempted first-degree murder.

Due to the Pretrial Integrity Act, Ferland was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under NO BOND.

Asheville police said in the news release that they recognized “the courage and quick response of the officers who were first to arrive on the scene, along with the dedicated investigators and our partners in the District Attorney’s Office for their efforts this morning.”
