Suspect identified in Edcouch bar stabbing

Edcouch police have identified the suspect accused of stabbing three people at a bar on Sunday, September 29th.

Police say Octavio Sabedra stabbed three people after a verbal altercation outside Buckhorns Bar and Grill.

According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to the bar and grill regarding an ongoing disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers were told it was a stabbing at the bar. Officers ran inside and saw several people fighting on the ground. The group eventually separated.

The complaint said officers made contact with Ruben Gonzalez, who they discovered had a laceration to his lower abdomen. Officers helped Gonzalez into a chair and learned that the person responsible for the stabbing was at the pool tables.

Police identified the alleged suspect as Sabedra.

The complaint states that Sabedra had an argument with a woman identified as Patricia Balli. Balli said Sabedra was the one who stabbed her boyfriend, identified as Rogelio Muniz.

The officers asked Sabedra if he had a knife, and Sabedra confirmed that he did. The officers patted Sabedra down and took a small black folding knife. he was arrested.

According to the complaint, officers noticed Muniz sitting on a nearby bench with multiple stab wounds and heavy blood loss.

Muniz told officers he tried to break up the fight but was stabbed. Officers administered first aid to Muniz until emergency medical services arrived.

Balli said she, Muniz and her brother-in-law, identified as Rosendo Luna, were out celebrating their sister Graciela’s birthday. Balli said Muniz and Luna went outside to smoke a cigarette when they got into a verbal altercation with Sabedra, according to the criminal complaint.

Officers obtained surveillance footage that confirmed the altercation began outside. It also showed Sabedra running back into the house with an object in his hands and appearing to fold it up. The recordings then showed two people going back into the house and apparently suffering from stab wounds.

Sabedra was arrested and police are continuing to investigate.
