2023 was a year of renewal and invention. We initiated a cross country Listening tour to hear directly from our members and partners and hear a unified theme: Our non-profit workforce is worn out and lacks adequate support.

We have stood firm despite the curtailment of hard-fought progress in diversity, equity and inclusion over the last year, including the end of the Supreme Court decision positive action in higher education and the lawsuit against black women Fearless Foundationwhich threatened grantees’ right to support historically marginalized groups.

We also examined why, despite our incredible power, our sector has not yet capitalized on our advantages collective influence develop its full potential.

In 2023, the Independent Sector has made great progress in pursuing important initiatives to address these challenges and enable our sector to improve lives, strengthen society and achieve our missions. We have identified industry-wide trends, opportunities and challenges; examined the significant decline non-profit advocacy group; Created collective solutions during the Upswell Summit 2023 in Dallas-Fort Worth; continued Stand strong for DEI; looked at headwinds and opportunities for strengthening public trust; worked to secure a place at the table during political discussions; and helped prepare ours next generation of leaders when they face new challenges.
