Judge convicts costumed criminals of sex crimes against homeless people

A 29-year-old who committed sex crimes against homeless people was sentenced this week in Lane County Circuit Court.

The Eugene Police Department (EPD) arrested 29-year-old Reginald BlackElk III on January 12, 2024, following an investigation into allegations that BlackElk committed sex crimes against unhoused Eugene males.

According to police, BlackElk wore a “unique” black and red superhero costume, which included a cape and eye mask, when committing these crimes.

Police told us that he didn’t know the victims, but that he targeted them in costumes during nighttime outings.

BlackElk pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three counts of third-degree sexual abuse and three counts of public indecency, EPD tells us.

BlackElk must serve six months in prison, register as a sex offender and complete five years of probation.
