Former Dartmouth police officer sentenced to prison after child rape conviction in Fall River court – Fall River Reporter

A former Dartmouth police officer was sentenced Thursday after being convicted Wednesday in Fall River Superior Court of child rape, indecent assault and battery

Shawn Souza, 43, was convicted by the jury late Wednesday afternoon of two counts of aggravated rape of a child, one count of forcible rape of a child and one count of assault on a person 14 years of age or older.

Souza was sentenced to a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 years in prison

The April 2019 arrest was the result of an investigation by the Bristol District Attorney’s Special Victims Unit. After Dartmouth police received a 51A report from the Department of Children and Families, they immediately contacted the District Attorney’s Special Victims Unit and asked them to lead the investigation.

All incidents are said to have occurred at Dartmouth while Souza was off duty.

The trial was conducted by Assistant District Attorneys Silvia Rudman and Kalene Kobza.
