Russell Simmons was ordered to pay  million to sexual assault accusers

Russell Simmons was ordered to pay out more than $3 million after he failed to honor settlement agreements he reached with three of his sexual assault accusers.

According to court documents obtained by diversityThe sentencing pleas were filed against the mogul in New York County Supreme Court on Wednesday (October 2) on behalf of the alleged victims.

Simmons previously agreed to the sentencing pleas as part of his individual settlements with Sil Lai Abrams, Sherri Abernathy and Wendy Carolina Franco, all of whom claimed they were victims of the Def Jam Records co-founder.

A guilty plea is intended to expedite the process by which a plaintiff collects the amounts owed in lieu of default.

Simmons entered into confidential settlement agreements with Abrams, Abernathy and Franco in November 2023 in which he agreed to pay $1,265,000 each to Abrams and Abernathy and $515,000 to Franco.

The plaintiffs were supposed to receive their settlements by Tuesday (October 1), but they have not yet been paid.

While the extent of Simmons’ sexual misconduct toward Abernathy and Franco was not detailed in the settlement, Abrams previously accused Simmons of raping her during a 1994 encounter, one of several sexual assault allegations against the Queens, New York, native .

Simmons, who currently lives in Bali, maintains his innocence despite the allegations and has not admitted any wrongdoing as part of his settlement.
