“There is an order of events to come”: The Rings of Power’s Cynthia Addai-Robinson announces an “exciting” but “tragic” storyline for Míriel in Season 3

Full spoilers follow The Rings of Power Season 2, Episode 8.

The Rings of PowerCynthia Addai-Robinson has suggested that the civil war in Númenóra between Míriel and Pharazôn is not yet over.

Before “Shadow and Flame”, aka The Rings of Power In the final episode of Season 2, which aired today (October 3) on Prime Video, Addai-Robinson and I spoke in late September about where the final chapter of this season leaves Míriel and how it sets up the rest of her story, which is still to come the successful series is pending.

So far, Amazon’s prequel series has done an excellent job of fleshing out the character of Míriel. Actually in the supplement by JRR Tolkien Lord of the rings There is actually little written in the literature about Númenor’s next true heir. The texts simply say that she was forced to marry Pharazôn after he usurped her and usurped the throne of the island kingdom. Okay, there’s one a little more to Míriel’s story than that, but this puts me in complete spoiler territory for the upcoming Númenórean events, so I won’t reveal how her story ends.

Regardless, Míriel played a more prominent and active role The Rings of PowerThe narrative based on Númenor. I’ll save the trouble of recounting their journey so far, but “Shadow and Flame” definitely opens up some intriguing storylines for the next installment of one of Prime Video’s best shows. OK, The Rings of Power Season 3 hasn’t been officially announced yet, but the showrunners are “working on it,” so it’s inevitable that another season is on the way.

What awaits Míriel after the last episode of the second season? After all, the last time she was seen – in chains, I might add – was standing before Pharazôn while one of his minions in Lord Belzagar rattled off a series of obvious accusations on her criminal record. Remember: After taking a look at Númenor’s Palantir in episode 7, Pharazôn claimed that Míriel was in league with Sauron, which is just the latest in a long line of accusations made against her.

So will she be locked up permanently? Does Pharazôn plan to marry her like in? The Lord of the Rings‘broader source material? Or is it as it has happened many times before The Rings of Power Will he deviate from his literary works and do something different with Míriel? Understandably, Addai-Robinson wasn’t at liberty to say too much, but she did drop some key hints about what’s to come in Season 3 and beyond.

“If you know the lore of Númenóra, here is a sequence of events to come,” she told me. “And I try not to have expectations or hold on to them, but I think it’s fair to say that modern audiences have certain expectations. So if certain things aren’t done with a modern lens, it might feel a little retrograde.” Dare I say it.

“What I love about our show is that not only do we have these great actresses, but we also have female characters who have agency. So I think the idea of her being locked away and that just happens.” [is wrong]. She made this active decision [to fight] and she is clear about this choice. I love that she is intelligent and understands people, especially Pharazôn, so she can make him believe he has the edge [when he’s not].

“She’s in the process of plotting and plotting her path right now, so I’m excited to see where it all goes. I also think she deserves a little break! But ultimately the story of Númenor is a tragic story, so it won’t go to get one.

Apparently we’re going to see a lot more of the civil war on Númenor in this TV adaptation than I expected – especially now that Míriel has sent Elendil, with the legendary sword Narsil in hand, to rally the faithful and attempt to retake the island kingdom by Pharazôn and The King’s Men.
