Nine dead in Israeli attack on Beirut apartment, Lebanese health ministry says | World News

At least nine people were killed in an airstrike on a multi-story building in a residential area in Beirut, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Previously it had been said six people were killedAnother 14 people were injured, four of whom are still being treated in hospital.

This was followed by a statement from a Hezbollah-affiliated Islamic health organization saying seven of its staff, including two medics, were killed in the attack.

The airstrike in the Lebanese capital’s Bachoura district targeted an apartment in a building that houses an office of the Health Society, a group of civilian first responders of which she is a member Hezbollah.

It was located near the Lebanese parliament and the United Nations headquarters – and tracked the firing of dozens of rockets into Israel Iran on Tuesday evening.

It was the second airstrike to hit the center Beirut this week and the second aimed directly at the Health Society within 24 hours.

In a statement on Telegram, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the militants were killed in an attack on a local government building in Bint Jbeil – where the Iran-backed militant group reportedly operated and stored large quantities of weapons.

The IDF added that the Beirut bombing was a targeted and “precise” attack – after its forces on the Lebanese front suffered their deadliest day in a year of clashes with Hezbollah.

Reuters witnesses reported hearing three large explosions in the Lebanese capital on Thursday.

Israel has focused its airstrikes mainly on the south and east of Lebanon, as well as the southern suburbs of Beirut, where Hezbollah has a strong presence.

The IDF sent an urgent warning to more than 20 cities in southern Lebanon. IDF spokesman Avichay Adraee called on residents to evacuate the areas immediately.

“Hezbollah’s activities force the IDF to take strong action against them,” he said.

“The IDF does not intend to harm you. Therefore, for your safety, you must immediately vacate your houses and head north of the Awali River. Save your life.”

Hezbollah said it detonated a bomb against Israeli forces infiltrating a village in southern Lebanon.

A statement published on Telegram said that Israeli troops from the Golani Brigade were attempting to bypass the western side of Maroun al Ras at the time. It was said that people were killed and injured.

The Lebanese army said a soldier was killed in an Israeli attack on a military post in southern Lebanon.

It previously said one soldier was killed and another injured after being targeted by an Israeli attack during a Red Cross rescue mission.

The Lebanese Red Cross said four of its medics were killed in the attack as they evacuated wounded people from the south.

It said the convoy near the village of Taybeh, which was accompanied by Lebanese troops, was targeted despite coordinating its movements with U.N. peacekeepers.

The IDF also announced the deaths of eight of its soldiers killed in Lebanon, naming them and releasing images of them.

Warplanes attacked an underground compound that served as a command center and where the militants were “hiding,” it said.

It claimed that Mr Mushtaha was one of Hamas’ “senior operatives” and had direct influence on decisions about where fighters were deployed.

Further flights chartered by the British government to bring Britons home from Lebanon are set to take place today, the Foreign Office said.

It said the flights would depart from Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport and continue as long as the security situation permitted.

More than 150 British nationals were flown out of the country yesterday and landed in Birmingham last night.
